An Idol Mind

Dan Humphrey was the worst

in Gossip Girl
Why Dan Humphrey was the worst on Gossip Girl because he was a snob.

Why Dan was the true snob of Gossip Girl

There he was, an awkward, bumbling scholarship student at St. Jude’s Preparatory School for Boys, surrounded by the upper class elite.

Intelligent and sensitive – and with a disarming line in self-deprecation, Dan Humphrey seemed the epitome of uncorrupted righteousness.

He stood for humility, honesty and integrity, and had a clear sense of right and wrong.

And then, slowly but surely, he became tarnished by his dealings with those conniving schemers that inhabit the Upper East side, and had to go over to the dark side in order to survive.

Or at least that’s the story Dan tells himself.

And that’s the problem with Dan – he really doesn’t have such a fantastic grip on reality… Keep Reading

Why does Bart Bass hate Chuck?

in Gossip Girl
Why does Bart Bass hate Chuck? Jade Wolf of An Idol Mind explores Bart's psychology.

Bart Bass is the tough, (well, murderous, as it turns out) father of Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass.

A self-made billionaire property magnate, Bart has an abrupt authoritative manner and he initially appears to be an old school autocratic father, disappointed in his wayward son.

This is a narrative we could understand.

If only it were true… Keep Reading

Why is Serena van der Woodsen so annoying?

in Gossip Girl
Why is Serena van der Woodsen so annoying?

Why Serena was the Worst

Serena van der Woodsen might just be the nicest person on Gossip Girl.

A big-hearted and kindly statuesque beauty, Serena is also blessed with huge Hermes bags of charisma and endless wealth, connections and privilege.

Despite this, Serena is as happy dating a townie chef (remember Ivy’s ex?) or a cater waiter (Dan Humphrey) as she is on the arm of old money Nate Archibald.

She’s a protective older sister to her younger brother, Eric, and a loyal BFF to Blair Waldorf. She also treats Blair’s minions well while mostly refusing to be involved in their schemes.

That’s why everyone loves Serena!

Everyone except you…

Something about good natured, easygoing Serena niggles at you.

After all, if Serena’s so damn nice why did she plot against Lola and Blair in Season 5? Keep Reading

Discovering Hidden Treasure in Made in Chelsea #Angus

in Made in Chelsea Cast

Meeting Angus Findley of Made in Chelsea is very confusing…

The model/reality star just isn’t what you’d expect.

Yes, he looks like a model.

Yes, he even looks like that chap on Made in Chelsea.

But that, ladies and gentlemen, is where the resemblance ends.

Sarawak, thirsty tiger 🐅

A post shared by Angus Findlay (@angusfindlay98) on

To provide you with a quick recap, Angus Findlay is the quiet chap who sometimes hangs out with the quirky Amelia Mist.

Upon arrival, he showed some initiative, optimism, or sheer folly, depending on your view, by attempting to secure a date with Miles Nazaire’s fiery on/off ex, Maeva D’ascanio.

Who promptly cancelled the date.

With a chuckle.

And that was pretty much that…

No more major stories for Angus, just a bit of egg on his face.

This was not particularly surprising as the bigger personalities inevitably get more air time.

So, why is my brain fried / scrambled? Keep Reading

in Love Island

Dating isn’t easy, is it?

It’s full of unexpected twists and turns, false starts and sudden endings.

No one knows that more than Amy Hart, the Love Island 2019 contestant who was unexpectedly dumped by her first love, Curtis Pritchard, on her return from the Casa Amor villa.

Anyone with a heart – or Hart – was in bits as a teary-eyed but smiling Amy declared her eternal friendship to Curtis and then gracefully departed from the spotlight with her head held high.

Amy thought she had met her “perfect man” but how can we predict these things in advance?

Especially when most of us date online, judging potential partners by little more than a clutch of artfully edited photos…

How do we know whether we should go on that first date? How can we protect ourselves from disappointment further down the line?

Enter dating app, CLiKD who are taking a swipe at the superficialities of online dating.  The app helps you to create relationships based on shared values and commonalities. Keep Reading

Love Island Love Lesson 5: No More Mr Nice Guy #Curtis #Michael

in 2019 Series 5/Love Island
Love Island meme of Michael Griffiths calling Amber Gill childish.

If you are watching Love Island you are probably feeling somewhat discombobulated.

We are living in a post-Casa Amor era where heads have been turned – along with our stomachs.

The test of being surrounded by six new girls while their partners were in Casa Amor for a few days proved too much for Michael Griffiths and Curtis Pritchard.

In fact, their heads turned so fast I’m surprised neither of them broke their neck.

Of course, we knew that some heads would turn – but we didn’t expect it from the two  Love Island Nice Guys…

When the women return from Casa Amor, Amy Hart finds herself ditched by Curtis while Amber Gill is dumped by Michael.

“I never thought you’d do this to me. You’re the perfect man, after all.”
Amy Hart to Curtis Pritchard

On the plus side, we’ve learned a few things…

Love Island Lesson 2: Be your annoying self at all times #Amber

in Love Island

“Pretend that you just woke up – that’ll throw her off! Be sleepy!”

“Yes! And grumpy!”

The above advice was given to Chandler Bing of Friends by Monica and Rachel to help him answer the phone in a way more likely to attract his love interest, Janice.

“Stop naming dwarves!” Chandler shouted – and promptly answered the phone as his flawed but loveable self.

He got the girl.

His approach is one that Love Island straight talker, Amber Gill, would doubtless approve of.

It’s week 2 of the nation’s favourite summer reality TV series and the controversial Geordie is becoming a surprise favourite with fans of the show.

Perhaps, it’s because the love lesson she is teaching the nation is the importance of being yourself…

“We need to build our own star,” says Richard Dinan.

The blond dynamo makes this startling announcement to an audience of professionals at the 2019 Business Show at ExCeL.

Perhaps it is not so surprising; the 32 year old entrepreneur is the founder of Applied Fusion Systems, a private manufacturer of nuclear fusion reactors in the UK.

He is also a former cast member of Made in Chelsea

Binky Felstead: weightloss exercise and nutrition as a new mum by An Idol Mind.

Binky’s back!

And although magazine shoots can attest to her lean, mean, post-baby body – with a thigh gap that could crack nuts – she is just as nice and normal as in her Made in Chelsea days.

For Alexandra Felstead is sitting before us in a big baggy jumper at the 2019 Women’s Health Live event and she’s about as comfortable and comforting as her knitwear.

Alexandra Felstead 2019 at Women's Health Live

She may enjoy exercise but she believes that everything should be in moderation – and she wants mums to be kinder to themselves.

“I am not a fitness expert, I’m just a first time mum trying to do the best she can,” she admits frankly.

BUILDing his Future: What Sammy Did Next

in Made in Chelsea Cast
Sam Thompson star of Celebs Go Dating, Made in Chelsea and Celebrity Big Brother is now a presenter for BUILD LDN.

A slim brown-haired fellow sneaks his head around the door and then ventures into the room, a little bashfully at first.

He’s quieter than you’d expect, polite to a fault, and he’s dressed down in skinnies and trainers.

You nod at him automatically because you’ve met him before.

Well, we all have.

He’s the everyman. He’s the boy next door. The type that mothers adore and eagerly proffer to their daughters.

And here he is now, checking in with the motherly (and fatherly) types in the audience, asking them how they are.

Promising the crowd that we won’t have to wait long until the show begins.

He has the brightest, brightest blue eyes.

He is bursting at the seams with positivity.

He is Sam Thompson.
