COMPETITION: Find love – and meet Love Island’s Amy Hart!

in Love Island

Dating isn’t easy, is it?

It’s full of unexpected twists and turns, false starts and sudden endings.

No one knows that more than Amy Hart, the Love Island 2019 contestant who was unexpectedly dumped by her first love, Curtis Pritchard, on her return from the Casa Amor villa.

Anyone with a heart – or Hart – was in bits as a teary-eyed but smiling Amy declared her eternal friendship to Curtis and then gracefully departed from the spotlight with her head held high.

Amy thought she had met her “perfect man” but how can we predict these things in advance?

Especially when most of us date online, judging potential partners by little more than a clutch of artfully edited photos…

How do we know whether we should go on that first date? How can we protect ourselves from disappointment further down the line?

Enter dating app, CLiKD who are taking a swipe at the superficialities of online dating.  The app helps you to create relationships based on shared values and commonalities. Keep Reading

ITV Love Island: Did you spot the Relationship Red Flags?

in 2019 Series 5/Love Island

ITV Love Island 2019 is over.

What we can learn from it isn’t.

We’re going to delve deep into the cues, clues and nuances of interactions between our Love Island couples for some more love lessons.

If you’ve ever had doubts about your own relationship, see if it has any of the telltale signs we spotted in our ill-fated Love Island pairings…

When you don’t have the full story…

“So, you didn’t want to crack on with anyone else then?” asked a surprised Anna Vakili of Jordan Hames.

Anna has returned from Casa Amor with Ovie Soko in tow – her gorgeous, funny, loyal new love interest.

She was visibly shocked that the chap she had been having a casual fling with, the chap who had been entirely free of romantic declarations, the chap who had not remotely confirmed any commitment to her, had not re-coupled with someone new during her time away in Casa Amor.

“No,” replied Jordan,“I wanted to prove you wrong and prove to you that I do like you – and that you should trust me. Because I don’t say things if I don’t mean them.”

Anna then admits: “I’m surprised at you. I’m surprised at how you acted and how much you like me.”

Anna was surprised for a good reason.

Because it was surprising – as things that aren’t true often are.

Love Island Lesson 6: Perfection Is Not Enough #Ovie

in 2019 Series 5/Love Island

Shortly before Ovie Soko headed off to Love Island he was quoted in The Radio Times as saying the following:

“I’m confident I bring enough to the table.”

It seemed like a fair assumption…

Not only is the 28 year old professional basketball player already successful in his own right – but at 6ft 7 tall Ovie is also the towering embodiment of chiselled perfection.

Viewers swooned when his torso first shimmied across our screens.

And he seemed to be the full package.

Love Island Love Lesson 5: No More Mr Nice Guy #Curtis #Michael

in 2019 Series 5/Love Island
Love Island meme of Michael Griffiths calling Amber Gill childish.

If you are watching Love Island you are probably feeling somewhat discombobulated.

We are living in a post-Casa Amor era where heads have been turned – along with our stomachs.

The test of being surrounded by six new girls while their partners were in Casa Amor for a few days proved too much for Michael Griffiths and Curtis Pritchard.

In fact, their heads turned so fast I’m surprised neither of them broke their neck.

Of course, we knew that some heads would turn – but we didn’t expect it from the two  Love Island Nice Guys…

When the women return from Casa Amor, Amy Hart finds herself ditched by Curtis while Amber Gill is dumped by Michael.

“I never thought you’d do this to me. You’re the perfect man, after all.”
Amy Hart to Curtis Pritchard

On the plus side, we’ve learned a few things…

Love Island Love Lesson 4: Don’t Play Games #Maura

in 2019 Series 5/Love Island

Some people will look down their noses at you for lounging in front of Love Island when you could be reading The Guardian or watching a documentary.

Be sure to tell them that you’re researching gender bias and attitudes towards sex in Brexit-era Millennials.

Because it turns out that’s exactly what we are doing.

For Love Island is a fluffy programme with hard edges – it’s the iron fist in a velvet glove – and this year the show has landed quite a few punches.

Many of those punches have been thrown by “ring girl” Maura Higgins who has electrified viewers since she first strode into the villa, hand in hand with fellow islander, Elma Pazar.

Love Island Lesson 3: Don’t squash yourself – or anybody else #Yewande

in Love Island/Uncategorized

If you started watching Love Island to have a giggle at the inflated muscles, lips and egos of this year’s contestants you were probably just after some lighthearted fun.

You planned to switch on the show and switch off all your faculties and simply enjoy some mindless entertainment.

Unfortunately, it’s all gone a bit wrong.

In fact, you now find yourself cringing before the screen with your hands over your eyes.

The Yewande and Danny situation hooked you in and now you can’t bear to watch it all implode.

Admit it – this year’s cast have got to you, haven’t they?

Love Island Lesson 2: Be your annoying self at all times #Amber

in Love Island

“Pretend that you just woke up – that’ll throw her off! Be sleepy!”

“Yes! And grumpy!”

The above advice was given to Chandler Bing of Friends by Monica and Rachel to help him answer the phone in a way more likely to attract his love interest, Janice.

“Stop naming dwarves!” Chandler shouted – and promptly answered the phone as his flawed but loveable self.

He got the girl.

His approach is one that Love Island straight talker, Amber Gill, would doubtless approve of.

It’s week 2 of the nation’s favourite summer reality TV series and the controversial Geordie is becoming a surprise favourite with fans of the show.

Perhaps, it’s because the love lesson she is teaching the nation is the importance of being yourself…

Love Island Lesson 1: Jealousy is weird and creepy – unless you’re the one feeling it

in Love Island

The parade of pert derrieres and shiny muscles moving in the slowest of slow motion begun last week.

Yes, Love Island is back!

But what love lessons can we learn from this year’s contestants on the ITV hit show?

Throughout the coming weeks An Idol Mind will closely examine the glossy-limbed, hairless love-seekers for tips on that hairiest of subjects: love.

Today, let’s start with the thorny topic of jealousy…

Joe Garratt is a 22-year-old Londoner who owns a catering company. The pretty, tousled haired chap has ‘caught feelings’ for another Love Island contestant.

After 1.5 days.
